Thought for the day

imagesLast week at the game, I was about to go and get my car out of the lot and I asked the parking attendant if I would have to pay to park again, when I returned. I explained to him that I was going to get money (out of the ATM) for my son, so he could eat when the band got a break.

The parking attendant asked me how much my son needed, and I told him an amount. Right then, he reached in his pocket and pulled out some money and said, “Give him this”. I was stunned at first. I really didn’t know what to say or what to do, so I asked him, “How will I get this back to you. I don’t know when I will see you again? ” The attendant replied, “Don’t worry about it. Tell him that we said enjoy”.

Of course you know I was happy, because I didn’t have to leave the game, but I was even happier over the attendant’s generous act. The thing about it is, it’s one thing to be generous, but it is another thing when the generosity is extended to a stranger and during a time when the country as a whole, seemed to be divided.

It was a lesson and a reminder that we can’t throw everyone into the same pot, simply because they look like someone that has done something that we don’t approve of. This happens a lot in society on both sides of the aisle and from all ethnicities.
This generous act personally gives me reassurance that there is reason to hope that unity and kindness towards your fellow man is not only possible, but should be expected.

Thank-you “young man”, whoever you are, for being an example to us all, by showing us what a kind-heart should look like.
