I talked to a friend Sunday and we were discussing the sermon that my Pastor had preached. Most of the references that Bishop gave were coming from the story of the “Prodigal Son”.
I could tell that this person was hesitant to elaborate on the notes that they had written down, so I asked them did they know the story of the Prodigal Son and to my surprise, they didn’t. This was keeping them from getting full revelation of the sermon.
I was surprised that they didn’t know this story, because they are around us a lot. This became a lesson for me and other spiritual leaders.
Spiritual leaders: When you minister on an ongoing basis, never assume that the people you are helping know everything that you do. It is the little Sunday School lessons that we learned when we were young that provide a foundation for our Pastors to build upon, when they deliver the word. We have to do all that we can to make sure the foundation is laid so that the revelation reaches everyone that it is supposed to reach.
When we spread the gospel, we have foundation to teach, mold, and nurture. Let’s not be so busy, that we forget to nurture. Let’s not be guilty of just pointing a person to the well. Let us make sure that we not only show them what to do, but we prepare them with what they need to take a drink.
